Julie Maxwell awarded NAFSA RISE Fellowship for '25-'26

Julie Maxwell, Program Manager at the Office of Global Affairs, has been awarded the NAFSA RISE Fellowship for the 2025-2026 year. Only 11 RISE Fellowships were awarded out of over 115 applicants for the 2025-2026 cohort.

"It is such an honor to be chosen to be in the 2025-26 RISE Fellows Cohort, and I cannot wait to meet the other fellows and learn from them. The work we all do in International Studies is intersectional, and it's vital to remember that everyone brings their whole self to the table. I want to lift up stories in International Studies that are not always told, and I believe that the RISE Fellowship and the conversations our cohort will have about power, equality, justice, and representation will help me to tell powerful stories about this vital work."

The National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA) created the RISE Fellowship Program to:

  • Provide representation of international education professionals from underrepresented minority backgrounds
  • Ensure the inclusion of participants into established professionally recognized NAFSA programming and networks
  • Support the continued learning and sustained engagement of participants as they establish themselves in their professional journey
  • Lead the empowerment of participants with resources and tools to help them give back to their institutions and communities, and the field at large
