Graduate Certificate in Canadian Studies

Duke graduate students have written more than 150 theses on Canadian subjects. The program coordinates research, teaching, and outreach about Canada within the context of North America and the world, and sponsors speakers and seminars.

Graduate students may earn a certificate in Canadian Studies by completing three full graduate courses related to Canada, one of which is Canadian 282S, an interdisciplinary course; studying or demonstrating proficiency in French, a native North American language, or a “heritage language” used in Canada; and completing a graduate thesis or research project on a Canadian or a comparative topic. ¬†Canadian Studies also offers modest fellowship and travel support to graduate students carrying out research on Canada.
