John Hope Franklin Scholars Program

In 2005, the Duke Curriculum Project, which aims to enrich the curricula of local public schools, launched the John Hope Franklin Scholars Program. The initiative is designed to help prepare local high school students for higher education by improving their writing and research skills.

John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture

Founded in November 1995 with John Hope Franklin's support, the Center seeks to collect, preserve and promote the use of library materials bearing on the history of Africa and people of African descent.

Franklin joined the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march in St. Jude, a small town on the outskirts of Montgomery, walking with 30 other historians.
