Speaker(s): Moshe Rosman, Bar-Ilan University
Join the Duke-UNC Jewish Studies Seminar for a talk by Moshe Rosman, Professor in the Department of Jewish History at Bar-Ilan University.
This seminar will be a discussion by participants of a pre-circulated paper on the topic. The paper reviews the fruits of the past thirty years of scholarship on Hasidism, asserting a new conception of the beginnings of the Hasidic movement and the roles of its early leaders, Israel Ba’al Shem Tov and Dov Ber, the Maggid. The paper also re-casts the early opposition to this movement.
