French-language Immersion Programs and Summer Research in Canada

 

The Center for Canadian Studies invites Duke graduate students to apply for funding to pursue research projects or French-language study in Canada. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing an academic career in Canadian Studies. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis

French-language Study. Grants of up to $3,000 US are available to students for French-language Immersion courses at the University of Québec at Trois-Rivières or Chicoutimi, McGill University, or the University of Montreal.  Students should consult the websites below for detailed information.

 

 

Research. Grants of up to $3,000 US are also available for research projects that focus on any aspect of Canada, including its history, politics, economy, public policy, environment, society, culture, or literature. Applications should describe the research project, explain why the research must be done in Canada, include a detailed budget, and be accompanied by a letter of support from a Duke faculty member.

 

All requests for funding should be addressed to Professor Jane Moss, Director of the Center for Canadian Studies. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2012. 

 

Call for Applications: Visiting Canadian Studies Scholars

 

The Center for Canadian Studies at Duke University invites applications from Canadian Studies scholars who have research grants and/or sabbatical leaves and would like to spend time in residence at Duke as Visiting Scholars during the 2012-2013 academic year. The Center will provide library privileges and will assist in finding temporary housing. Some partial funding will be available. In addition to participating in Center activities, Visiting Scholars will be invited to give presentations about their research. Applicants must have obtained their Ph.D. (or equivalent professional degree) and have permanent institutional appointments or post-doctoral funding.

Fulbright Canada Visiting Research Chairs in North American
and Global Studies

 

Fulbright Canada supports collaborative reserach efforts among members of the North American academic community on thematic issues of bilateral and global significance through the establishment of a number of Research Chair awards at Canada's leading universities and research centers. Research Chairs enable prominent and promising scholars and experienced professional to conduct research, develop collaborations and guest lectures at select Canadian universities and research centers. In addition, grantees will have the opportunity to deliver public lectures, give seminar presentations, participate in conferences and otherwise contribute to ongoing research activities at the host institution.
